A 2021 article in the ASHA leader, a publication created by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), discusses the use of communication boards for first responders.

Individuals experiencing stressful and traumatic experiences see their expressive and receptive language decrease. For individuals with language skills impacted by other dis/abilities, this can make it extremely difficult to interact with first responders. One suggestion is to provide first responders with communication boards that contain words and phrases that will augment the communication through symbols and words. These boards can also support receptive language if modeled on by the first responder.

It's "low tech" but it's still assistive tech, and could save lives.
